Not a beach party town but more a flux of tourist energy resorting among 70+ properties from backpacker to 5 star. Find an award winning golf course, the best wind/kite surfing in Vietnam, casino, dance venue, karaoke suites, fresh out of sea food and one of the coolest bars overlooking the strand. Oh yeah, a very clean beach with very few vendors hovering over you while you're laid out.
For those entering Vietnam in HCMC, "It's the train, it's the train!". Without commercial air service to Phan Thiet a train ride offers the best option. Hiring a car, taking a tourist bus may sound like a great way to see the country but after 5 hours stuck in your seat you'll appreciate the freedom to see just as much, walk to a snack or meal without stopping or bring your own and stretch out.
